SHOCKING statistics revealed by Scottish charity KidsOR‘s global report landed major national news titles, reaching millions of people.

The report revealed 1.75 billion children do not have access to safe surgical care – a key stat the release led on – sharing the shocking scale of the issue.

The team at Holyrood PR drafted a media release and pitched the story to national, regional, TV and broadcast to amplify the awareness – securing prime coverage with broadcast giants, STV.

Coverage highlights include:

Careful planning allowed us to work with the charity’s teams to prepare a package of work that was primed for the media. The coverage has revealed the stark figures with individuals currently involved with the charity, as well as those who have never heard of it before and may want to get involved.

Our team spoke with KidsOR Chairman, Garreth Wood, to gain further insight into the severity of international inequalities in children’s health care and discuss what needs to be done to change this.

The charity’s report, ‘The Unmet Need of Children’s Surgery in 2022’ was compiled with research partners at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) and data collected by KidsOR.

The report further unveiled that 9 in every 11 children globally do not have access to safe surgery, whilst a further 54 million require surgical procedures that are not available.
