Children’s charity Kids Operating Room (KidsOR) made its mark in the media after announcing its new fundraising drive challenging businesses to travel 124 miles with a budget on £7.50, with help from charity PR.

The drive dubbed “Business Breakout” aims to raise awareness of the difficulties faced by African families, with £7.50 being the average amount a family have to spend on transport and 124 miles is the average round trip to access safe paediatric surgery in Africa.

Its launch will coincide with World Health Day held on April 7 and will see long-distance cycler, Mark Beaumont head up the challenge as KidsOR’s adventure ambassador.

Charity PR experts played an essential part in sharing the story that achieved the following results:

Our team organised a photo call to capture high quality images to accompany the announcement and showcase the individuals involved.

Staged at the top of Calton Hill, we had Mark Beaumont in branded “Business Breakout” gear with his bike and CEO and Co-Founder Garreth Woods with a hitch-hiking sign – this was to highlight the many ways people could travel during the challenge.

This coverage is essential to raising awareness of the struggles that African families bare as well as putting the challenge in front of those who would be interested in getting involved.

Launched in 2018, Kids OR is working to create a world where every child has access to safe surgery by revamping operating theatres across Africa and providing training for surgeons to work in operating rooms.
