Youngsters Shine at First Ever Scottish Schools Pipe Band Championships

The first ever Scottish School’s Pipe Band Championship was held today in Broughton High School in Edinburgh and with a turnout of over 400 people, it has proven to be a great success.

45 bands from 39 schools around Scotland competed in what was many of the youngsters first time performing publically.

As reported in the Island News & Advertiser, Sgoil Lionacleit’s Pipe Band were one of the victors in the competition, taking first prize in the debut category and they also bring their £500 winnings home to Uist.

There were a total of five categories to compete in and the prizes were presented by Cabinet secretary for Education and Lifelong learning, Michael Russell.

Mr Russell, said: “I am delighted that the first ever Scottish School’s Pipe Band Championships has gone so well and that so many young pipers have come from across the country to perform.

Hours of practice and concentration was put into preparations for the big day which lead it to be such a success.
