Concerns for future of bagpipes highlighted by successful PR campaign

31 DEC The Times PAGE 15 CROPPIPING and drumming enthusiasts have caused a stir in the media after speaking out about the threat faced by Scotland’s national instrument.

The worrying threat to the future of traditional bagpipes caught the attention of the nation’s most influential media, featuring in The Times, The Scotsman (online and print), The Press and Journal (online and print), BBC Scotland online, The Daily Record, The Sun and The Economic Voice.

The success was delivered by Scottish public relations Holyrood PR in Edinburgh, 31 DEC The Press and Journal PAGE 10 CROPwhose experts were called in by David Johnston, Convener for the Scottish Schools Pipe Band Championships.

David is keen to get the pipes and drums into more schools across Scotland and expressed concerns over the lack of piping and drumming tuition in the country’s classrooms.

31 DEC www.bbc.co.ukDavid and the committee behind ‘The Championships’ are encouraging parents to recognise the merit that comes from learning the pipes and drums in school in the hopes that more will include the instruments on their curriculum.

Craig Munro of the hugely successful Red Hot Chilli Pipers also offered up his opinion, believing that tuition in larger cities, such as Edinburgh and Glasgow, is key to encouraging other schools throughout Scotland to take on the pipes and drums.
