You got a friend in Bield

Bield Housing And Care Press releases

Bield Press Release 2Gordon Court, a Retirement Housing Development in Edinburgh, is looking for volunteers as part of the launch of a befriending initiative aimed at improving the lives of tenants.

Bield, one of Scotland’s leading providers of housing and care, recognises the important role that companionship can have on improving the lives of tenants at Gordon Court, enabling them to participate in local events, and become more involved in social activities.

Bield are looking for befrienders who would visit tenants on a regular basis, whether staying in for a cup of tea and a chat, or venturing further afield.

Development manager Christine Wood said: “This is a wonderful opportunity for our tenants who feel isolated or unable to get out on their own. Many would love to be able to do some of the activities they used to, and with the support of someone else this could be possible again.”

The befriending project is already in place at other Bield schemes and has proved very successful.

The initiative reinforces Bield’s ‘free to be’ ethos helping residents make their own decisions and maintain independence whilst offering assistance if they need it.

If you are free Monday or Wednesday mornings and enjoy socialising, Bield would be interested in hearing from you. If you would like to be provided with more information please call Christine Wood on 0131 554 3231.

Enquiries are welcome from people of all ages over 16.   Full training and support will be given and out-of-pocket expenses will be paid.   A minimum commitment of six months is required.

Please note that these are volunteer, unpaid positions. We thank everyone for their enquiry, however we hope that you understand that not all enquiries will result in volunteer placements.
