Renewables developer submits a strong appeal challenging East Ayrshire wind farm decision

27 MAR AYRSHIRE POST PG5 CROP blurRenewable energy firm Banks Renewables challenged East Ayrshire Council not to let plans for a new wind farm be blown away, with an official appeal sent to the Scottish Government.

The application to build an eight-turbine wind farm at High Cumnock was refused by East Ayrshire Council despite 477 letters of support and just eight letters of objection. Two of the letters of support come from community councils closest to the proposed site – who have vehemently supported the project, encourage the boost to a local economy hit by the decline of coal mining and the manufacturing industry.

As a pioneer for sustainable and responsible development the Hamilton based firm is keen to build and maintain great relationships with surrounding communities. The proposal for the High Cumnock site could provide employment for up to 100 local people in East Ayrshire, also securing a £33 million ‘shot in the arm’ for the local economy.
