SEA LION DOES SIT UPS (Aoibhinn)

I’ve only just seen this but it is hilarious! This sea lion was filmed doing sit ups along to the motivational music of the eye of the tiger – the crowd absolutely loved it. This sea lion was trained to do so for its audience. This video was from The ‘Maffe Matrozen’ sea lion show in Europe’s largest marine mammal park; Dolfinarium Harderwijk in the Netherlands.

21 SECOND WATERMELON TRICK BECOMES AN INTERNET HIT (Rebecca)

A chef was caught chopping a watermelon in less than 30 seconds. Matt Jones had been challenged by his colleague to chop and dice the fruit in 30 seconds. He managed to do so with 9 seconds to spare! The clip, entitled “Watermelon 30 seconds or less,” was posted on YouTube on April 23 so I’m a bit slow on finding this out but never the less, given the time span he was given to complete the task it was remarkable. Since then, his impressive knife skills have been viewed more than three million times.

BABY NAMES BANNED IN NEW ZEALAND (Sarah)

New Zealand have released a list of baby names which have been put forward by parents but that were rejected due to them either being ridiculously silly or just offensive. Names on the list included: ‘4Real’, ‘V8, ‘Anal’ and Queen Victoria.’ Some parents were simply referring to their children as ‘2nd’, ‘3rd’ etc with regards to being the latest addition to the family.

BIONIC DOG CAN WALK AGAIN (Aimee)

Naki’o, a mixed breed dog from Nebraska in the US can walk again after he was fitted with prosthetic limbs following a frost bite injury where he lost all of his paws. He also lost part of his tail and this is all due to him being abandoned in a cellar as a puppy. This mixed breed was unable to play with other dogs whilst growing up and moved about by shuffling on his belly. His owner, Christie Pace put together a fundraiser the dog which raised enough money for 2 back leg prosthetics – they cost between £600 and £2000. The company that fitted the false legs then decided to also do his other paws free of charge. He is the only dog to have four prosthetic limbs.

THE DRIVEWAY THAT NO CAR CAN USE (Melissa)

Kathleen Annals arranged to have a driveway laid due to the frustration of family and friends as when they came to visit her they found it increasingly difficult to park. The pensioner from Andover, Hampshire has further problems as the local council placed a lamp post in front of the drive making it impossible to use – as a result, she now has to apply to have the lamp post removed. A spokeswoman for Hampshire County Council said that: ‘the lamp post was installed as part of a rolling programme of installations in the area.’ She added that: ‘applications for dropped kerbs and moving lamp posts would be looked at on an individual basis.’ The council normally charges between £600 and £1,200 for a dropped kerb to be installed.
