Eagle Couriers director Fiona Deas and Ollie the owlWest Lothian Business, the leading business news portal for the West Lothian region, has reported on a recent sponsorship deal between Eagle Couriers and the Five Sisters Zoo and Wildlife Park.

The business website ran a story about how Eagle – which is Scotland’s leading independent courier firm – has adopted the zoo’s resident eagle owl Ollie to be it’s mascot for the coming year.

Eagle Couriers has chosen the struggling zoo as its featured charity for the year and has been raising funds for the cash-strapped attraction in recent months. Under the sponsorship deal, Eagle has sponsored an animal enclosure at the zoo and has adopted Ollie the owl – and the firm plans to run more awareness and fundraising initiatives for the venue throughout the rest of 2009.

The sponsorship comes after the Five Sisters Zoo, in West Calder, hit the headlines amid concerns from staff that it was being badly affected by the recession. The owners of the zoo said they were losing money as fewer people were visiting the zoo, which meant that the welfare of their animals was being put in jeopardy.
