PR Intern reflects on time at an Edinburgh PR agency

Scottish PR Intern Danielle Bryson reflects on her first week

By Danielle Bryson

MY time at Edinburgh PR agency Holyrood PR has went just as quick as the tub of Mackie’s of Scotland’s new strawberry and rhubarb-flavoured ice cream that got delivered to the office last week.

It feels like only yesterday that I was sitting in the office car park trying to settle my first day nerves and as I come to the end of my last week with the team here at Holyrood PR, it’s time to reflect on my time. However, sitting down to write about the past four weeks proves difficult when there is so much to talk about.

My time has been filled with plenty of tasks, from conducting phone interviews and writing press releases and blog posts to various research tasks that will help with the future planning of client campaigns.

I’m really glad that I’ve been kept busy with real, meaningful projects that will be put to use for clients or the business itself.

I particularly enjoyed working on creating coverage montages for the website in Photoshop. I was able to see the amazing amount of coverage that the team had worked hard to secure while perfecting my editing skills.

The immense amount of coverage that came through nearly every day in relation to Mackie’s sponsorship of an ice-swimmer Jade Perry, really showed how a well written press release and some quirky PR photos will make a story perform swimmingly.

Taking on a full-time internship while writing the bulk of your dissertation, probably isn’t the best timing, however, it has shown me that with a bit of determination and a lot of time management, anything is possible.

As I go from working with Mackie’s and back to Mcdees, I know that I have gained valuable experience that will follow me beyond graduation.

So, for anyone contemplating about applying for an internship here at Holyrood PR, I’m here to say – go for it! No matter your experience level, the team will be sure to supply you with all the help you need.
