WHEN PHOTOGRAPHY IS A HOOT FOR THE HUNTER (Scott)

This fine pic caught my eye. Photographer Troy Lim regularly sets out to capture shots of owls – but this one required particular patience as he stood on his car roof. Troy’s own hunting instinct was rewarded when he caught this image of an owl and its unfortunate prey. You can see more of Troy’s landscape and wildlife photography at his official website. But it’s this image which has earned him international coverage.

JEDWARD POSE A VICTIMS OF ABUSE (Laura)

No these aren’t images of Jedward after being attacked by angry fans, they are part of an anti-bullying campaign for the Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (ISPCC) which has recruited famous faces such as Lous Walsh, Mark Feehly (Westlife) and Laura Whitmore to help raise awareness. The stars appear battered and bruised in the shocking adverts which show how the effects of bullying and abuse last a lifetime and many people still bear the emotional wounds in the adulthood. The images are certainly provoking and hopefully the celebrity endorsement will help muster the support of the Irish community.

80’S KIDS WEEP AS JOHNNY FIVE COMES ALIVE…AGAIN (Adrian)

To say I’m not the biggest fan of movie remakes would be something of an understatement. I’ve sat through the re-imaginings of classic – and not so classic – properties such as Star Trek, the A-Team, Nightmare on Elm Street, the Karate Kid, Clash of the Titans, Arthur and countless others; most of which have been unbelievably bad. But I’m distraught at the latest announcement to come from Hollywood, which has stabbed my childhood once more – the planned reboot of 80s robo-comedy Short Circuit. Now, I’m under no illusions that the original was a particularly great film but nevertheless there’s something admirable about the tale of a military robot that comes alive during a freak electrical storm. And this will no doubt be destroyed under the remake, which is likely to focus on CGI and slapstick over craftsmanship. It’s also been announced that the director of this potential steaming turd of a movie is Tim Hill – the man who helmed such abominations as the God-awful Alvin & the Chipmunks franchise and Easter-themed CGI fest Hop. Clearly the best man for the job…

DIVE, DIVE, DIVE (Raymond)

We’ve all been there…long day chilling out at the pool on holiday, a few beers tucked away, sun is shining – let’s play games in the water! The only difference this that new website is growing followers around the world by hosting pictures of a new poolside game called ‘leisure dives’.  The object is to appear as chilled out, debonair and in control as possible in a reclined position while you are in mid air, seconds away from hitting the water.  While Olympic diving hopeful Tom Daley is unlikely to take any tips you have got to admire some of the excellent poses – my favourites are the diving bridesmaid and baseball squad.

TACKLING THE TRAFFIC WARDENS (Laura)

Edinburgh Rugby have released the first of their viral videos, designed to promote their new closer to the action match day experience, showing an Edinburgh traffic warden rugby tackled to the ground, followed by the slogan ‘Get In There’. The ‘Get In There’ campaign will showcase further videos over the next few weeks in order to promote the new pitch side standing seats and this first episode was aired during the Ireland vs Scotland game at the weekend. The club have now also set up a dedicated Youtube channel in order to publish their videos and make it easier for fans to share the videos on social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter. So go on take a look at the video and ‘Get In There’!!
