Holyrood shows how PR can can lead to Success
Everything we do at Holyrood PR is aimed at earning great media coverage for our clients that lets them tell their stories to the world. But those who’ve never worked with a PR agency may well wonder how that works – and what kind of successes can be generated.
We’re delighted to have just completed a PR project for the Scottish Schools Pipe Band Championships, in its second year and that campaign gives a great insight into creative and successful PR. Over several months we promoted the competition in local media across Scotland – notching up a particular success with our story about police officers from Scotland’s most successful ever pipe band giving lessons to kids from a tough school in Govan. The pictures and coverage of smiling kids learning the pipes and drums enjoyed extensive coverage and ensured important message about the Scottish School Pipe Band championships got in front of tens of thousands of people.
The Holyrood team were also on hand during the Championship itself, along with big name media players we’d invited to attend, including The Times, The Herald, the Daily Record and The Daily Mail. Members of our team even made sure they sported tartan touches when they turned out to help the reporters and photographers to get the pictures and interviews they were looking for. Melissa and Heather from the Holyrood PR team even got the chance to give the pipes a wee skirl, while colleague Craig was on hand to capture the moment in photos and video.
But it wasn’t all play and the Holyrood team also live tweeted throughout the day while catching highlights of the championships on video and photos and up-dating via social media. It’s the second year Holyrood PR has provided PR support for the championships, after our work in 2013 helped the inaugural event to have an incredibly successful launch. So successful in fact, that we earned an award nomination for that campaign, which secured 14 items of coverage in national titles, 16 items in regional press and drove web traffic from zero to 36,370 hits in just over two months.
This year, all guns were blazing again as Holyrood PR increased the drive for success and delivered double the coverage of last year.We secured 21 items of national media exposure and 31 items of local media coverage as well as extensive coverage in specialist titles, including some of the piping world’s top publications.
In total the coverage created 121million opportunities to see, the kind of exposure which saw the number of schools registered increase from 50 in 2013 to an impressive 98 for the 2014 competition.
