Duncan Scott is making waves in his local community as well as the history books

THE HOLYROOD PR video team were in Troon to witness the homecoming of Duncan Scott after winning six medals at the 2018 Commonwealth Games made him the most decorated Scottish athlete ever at a single games.

As an ambassador of Scottish Water and Scottish Swimming’s Learn to Swim programme, Duncan returned to Troon Pool, in South Ayrshire, where he first learned to swim to inspire more youngsters to take to the water.

The framework has reached more than 75,000 children already and is showing no signs of slowing down.

Back in his hometown, Duncan spoke fondly about his memories of swimming in Troon around the ages of seven or eight-years-old and hopes that these are memories that can be replicated in the lives of many young ones across Scotland as they learn new skills and make new friends through the framework.

Parents appear to be in agreement over their love for the programme and the inspirational impact of having Commonwealth medallist, Duncan Scott, there in person to show just how far their children’s achievements can go.

The Learn to Swim programme offers classes for all children, starting with their adult and baby classes and extending into their school years, teaching them what it takes to feel safe and confident in the water. With motivation provided by Duncan Scott, their possibilities have no bounds, whether they are swimming towards the prizes or just for fun!
