Switch it Off: A Big Lesson For Scots With Smartphones in this PR Video
The Holyrood PR video team reported from the Scottish Business Resilience Centre’s Trading securely for business Conference after delegates were witness to a mass vulnerability in mobile devices that puts our data at risk.
Users are being urged to ensure devices are not set to automatically scan and lock on to WiFi networks – or they risk being easy targets for criminal hackers.
The stark, yet simple recurring message emerged as the strongest at a major national conference – Trading Securely for Business – billed as the most comprehensive event ever to take place in Scotland to tackle the increasing menace of cyber crime.
SensePost’s Glenn Wilkinson, who was among those reinforcing the importance of this message, unveiled his aptly named creation, ‘Snoopy Drone’, a device which was able to intercept detailed ‘Geo-data’ from unsuspecting delegates whose phones were set to scan automatically for WiFi networks.
With our story spotting team at the helm, we knew that the story of the drone that exposes vulnerabilities of our mobile phones, was going to be a headline maker. And to make sure the story went further than traditional print, we worked with SBRC to produce a short video discussing things everyone should do to avoid being hacked cybernetically, and how the SBRC can help to protect Scottish businesses who are at risk of the type of intrusion.
