Software testing giant sees profile catapulted into big league with social security project – and tech PR support

Tech PR media success case study for 2i testing

A SUCCESSFUL SOFTWARE testing business that previously flew below the radar has now enjoyed a major boost in its profile after engaging with the tech PR experts at Holyrood PR.

The 200-strong team at Edinburgh-based 2i are renowned across the UK in software testing circles, but the firm’s impressive success remained an untold secret with the wider public and business community.

However, that changed when managing director Dave Kelly approached our tech PR team and asked if we could help share news of a major win for the business, after it landed a £20million contract to help the Scottish Government deliver social security north of the border.

We made sure a dynamic version of the story was approved by both 2i and Social Security Scotland, after liaising with the government executive agency’s in-house media and communications team.

We also arranged a suite of new photography of Dave Kelly, ensuring the process left him with a selection of professional imagery for use far beyond the news coverage.

That package proved a major hit with the target business media, delivering stellar results which included:

  • 26 items of coverage
  • Reaching an audience of 1,130,075 across print, newsletters, online and social media
  • Articles in national media including The Times, The Herald, The Scotsman and Deadline News
  • Reach in vital business titles including Scottish Business Insider, Scottish Financial News, High Growth Scotland, Business Mondays and Daily Business
  • Regional exposure in the Edinburgh Evening News and Edinburgh Reporter
  • Positive headlines in specialist tech titles including Digit and FutureScot

“This has been a fantastic outcome. Thank you for doing such a tremendous job.”

Dave Kelly, Managing Director of 2i

This coverage was important to 2i because it energised the firm’s employees by validating their hard work, innovation and also celebrated their success. Research shows that motivated staff are more productive and more loyal.

The mini campaign also generated extensive positive coverage for the firm, which had not previously enjoyed a media profile. Generally, such coverage can also be valuable for firms which are looking for investment and can also help attract the best talent when recruiting.

Crucially, the coverage was also extremely positive for Social Security Scotland – meaning that the PR benefits were not limited to 2i, but also delivered a positive boost to the firm’s valued client.
