U.S Kids Golf held a junior try out day at Gullane Golf Course on May 13 and invited East Lothian school children to come along and learn more about the sport and encourage more youngsters to play on a regular basis.

PGA professional Alasdair Good was present on the day to help the youngsters hone their putting skills and maximise their drives, as well as East Lothian Lady Provost Sheena Richardson, who joined in the golfing lessons.

U.S Kids Golf European Championship, will take place across five courses in the home of golf and over 500 young hopefuls from over 40 countries across the world will descend on East Lothian at the beginning of June.

The tournament now in its 4th year, attracts children of all abilities aged between 5 and 18 years to compete for a place in the U.S Kids Golf World Championships at Pinehurst Golf Club in California.

Alasdair Good said: “Golf is becoming increasingly popular with kids around the world, especially with exciting young players like Rory McIlroy doing so well in the big competitions. The challenge is to harness that interest and encourage more youngsters to play the game for themselves.

“Even if this try-out day doesn’t unearth the next generation of major winners, we hope to show children how they can learn positive life lessons and develop friendships through the game of golf.”
