COCKTAIL lovers were given the chance to learn how to mix their favourite drinks from one of the world’s best, when renowned mixologist Andy Gemmel flew in to Edinburgh’s hottest venue to shake things up.

Boutique hotel restaurant and cocktail bar, Tigerlily, offered drink enthusiasts the chance to gain some of Andy’s professional expertise when it hosts an exclusive mixology masterclass.

The recently refurbished George Street venue revealed trade secrets for one night only as it welcomed the globe-trotting drinks fanatic to help guests get to grips with the art of blending cocktails.

Andy, Director of the Drink Cabinet UK, has travelled the world to widen his knowledge and creativity, which has allowed him to pick up a mix of traditional and original ideas that have helped him bring his creations to life.

The renowned mixologist added a little spark to Tigerlily’s favourite concoctions by introducing a range of fantastic new liqueurs and spirits to mix things up, while also running through the basics from muddling to shaking. Guests were also able to sample some off his signature creations while learning hands on how to re-create his specialities themselves.

Andy Gemmell said: “I am delighted to have had the opportunity to showcase some of my favourite creations at Tigerlily. Creating new drinks for people to enjoy is what I love to do and it was a privilege to be able to share some of these with the Tigerlily customers and bar staff. “

The George Street venue – which includes an award-winning boutique hotel – has recently undergone an impressive £500,000 makeover of its ground floor interior and décor.

David Johnston, Development Director at Montpeliers, said:  “Our bar staff were extremely excited to have an insight into Andy’s creations and learn first-hand how he mixes them all together.”

“Tigerlily’s new design is all about making the venue more accessible and fun. People will be able to move around and explore different areas which will have individual features and, for the first time, you will be able to sit at the bar to eat.”

The much loved Georgian building has now been cleverly split into stylish areas that are aimed at being equally appealing for any dining experience, from high teas to special celebration occasions.

The new food menu includes re-imagined classics and bold new flavours with seasonality and healthy eating at its core. The day/evening menus feature a range of options from Bites & Boards to ‘Hot Off The Coals’ dishes and a new Dine Out for Two for £10 aimed at those with an hour to spare come lunch.
