The Good and the Bad from Today’s PR in Scotland

Google Maps has always been a source of amusement for the media – whether it’s pictures of seagulls blocking the camera’s view or finding unexpected images at the end of a normal-looking street.
And a strange sighting was exactly what caught the eye of the Scottish media this morning as an Aberdonian was made famous thanks to the Streetview application.
The report that a man had donned a horse head mask and was photographed by the Google car during one of it’s tours has been spread across the national press.
As news of the “horseboy” spread through Twitter, the Google name has been captured by nearly every news station around.
If there’s one airline that’s like Marmite, it’s got to be Ryanair. People either love it or hate it. Sure, people moan that their flights are cheap until you have to add on all the supplements but at the end of the day, business is business and their business is booming.
So if there’s an excuse to have a rant at them then it will happen – so the front page of today’s Sun did exactly that. Under the headline “Ryanair Hostages” the article explains that more than 160 passengers were forced to pay for food and drink whilst their plane was delayed.
The police were even called to hand out chocolate, apparently, after passengers “begged” staff to give them free food and drink. Ryanair are of course made to look like the bad guys even though it was, as they said, illegal for them to serve refreshments.
It would seem even if Ryanair did something right in people’s eyes they would still not be happy – when you read about the company in the paper it’s either because they are boasting about passenger numbers and profits or receiving another complaint about service.
This article doesn’t really make them look good but they justify their actions and at the end of the day, they will still continue to be one of the most popular airlines in the UK, despite some potentially bad press.
