The Beast is Coming to Belfast

MAX Xtreme Fighting Press releases

MAX Xtreme Dan SevernOne of the world’s most renowned Xtreme fighters has been added to the bill for the eagerly awaited MAX Xtreme fighting event in Belfast’s Kings Hall on March 9.

Xtreme fighting legend Dan “The Beast” Severn has been confirmed to face homegrown fighter Colin “Big C” Robinson in the most high profile fight ever to take place in Northern Ireland.

Severn is regarded as one of the all-time greatest fighters in the history of Xtreme fighting – or Mixed Martial Arts as it is also known – and has played a pivotal role in developing the modern day sport in the USA and beyond.

He was the first world-class wrestler to enter the Ultimate Fighting Championships in the mid-1990’s when the sport was seen as a battle to distinguish the best fighting style on the planet and Severn was twice named UFC heavyweight champion during that time.

Now he is marking his first visit to Northern Ireland by taking on local favourite Robinson, the country’s most successful Xtreme fighter.

Severn said: “I am looking forward to visiting Northern Ireland and I hope to show the Irish fans why I am known as ‘The Beast’. I know the fans will get to see an exciting match in the world famous Kings Hall.”

Robinson, from Ballymena, said: “Anyone in the mixed martial arts sporting world knows who Dan Severn is. He is a tough competitor. I saw Dan on all the early UFC shows and I have the greatest respect for him. This will be an incredible fight for all the fans and for Irish MMA. There will definitely be fireworks on March 9th.”

Since the early days of UFC in the 1990’s the sport of Xtreme fighting has evolved to pick key elements from a variety of different fighting styles into a technique now known as mixed martial arts (MMA).

The popularity of the sport has grown rapidly in recent years with tens of thousands of people taking up the sport in the UK and hundreds of millions watching the events on TV worldwide.  Celebrity fans of the sport include George Clooney, Cindy Crawford and Paris Hilton among many others.

The MAX Xtreme event at the Kings Hall on March 9 is the third time the sport has been brought to Belfast and this event sees the most exciting fightcard yet, with more than 2500 fans expected to attend.

As well as the headline bout between Severn and Robinson, the event will also see match ups between some of Europe and the USA’s top fighters, as well as young up-and coming talent from Northern Ireland.

Jonny Burrows, spokesman for Cage Wars Productions, said: “We have worked hard to deliver fightcards that will capture the imagination of MAX Xtreme fans while also giving newcomers to the sport a great taste of what it is all about.

“The bills are a great mix of international talent and young local fighters and we are delighted to be able to put on a show with so many outstanding match-ups.

“We are also extremely happy to have been able to confirm Dan Severn on the fightcard for Belfast. He is a UFC hall of famer and is undoubtedly one of the top names in the sport.

“It will be magnificent for the crowd to be able to see one the legends in action and it will also be great boost for some of the younger fighters, who grew up watching him fight, to be on the same bill.”
