BIG BULLYS (Gaynor)

Well as you all know the 33rd annual pageant of the most beautiful bulldog contest took place on Monday and weren’t some of them just a sight for sore eyes. The contest which is held by Drake University showcased some of the funniest, grumpiest dogs there is. My favourite has to be Scrunch from Cedar Rapids who has to have the best work ethic ever. Turning up in his smart attire for this event he reminded me of a repressed office worker with a sense of style. Hats off to the trilby.http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/gallery/2012/apr/24/drake-relays-beautiful-bulldogs-contest#/?picture=389103627&index=1

SIRI MEETS ZOOEY (Victoria)

Apple are a very cool brand, and as a cool brand, they can get some cool people to advertise their products. They have launched a new campaign to promote the Siri feature on the iPhone and have enlisted the help of some very cool celebrities in their latest adverts. One of the best shows on TV right now is New Girl, starring the utterly spellbinding Zooey Deschanel. So who better than to sign up to promote their products? Really cute, as always.  There is also a version starring Samuel L Jackson if Zooey makes your teeth hurt. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YV-QsgdPBq8&feature=player_embedded

HOW GOOGLE SEARCHES WORK (Lewis)

This short video is a great way of explaining to people how Google searches work. Introduced by an employee of Google, the video offers a great insight and this can work wonders if you are trying to wow a client if you can explain to them how this all works. The life span of a Google query is less then 1/2 second, and involves quite a few steps before you see the most relevant results. The video explains all. http://youtu.be/BNHR6IQJGZs

SCOTS DOG TO THE RESCUE (Aimee)

Another animal clip to melt your heart strings-I challenge even the toughest not to appreciate this clip showing a rather unusual animal bond between a Scottish German Shepherd and set of orphaned goslings! The farmhouse pet, Cara, adopted the five goslings after their mother was taken by a fox and a Youtube clip of her guiding them through the farmyard has become another internet sensation-reaching over half a million views!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E70kQHvacNU

ELDERLY BELLY DANCING (Sarah)

This week has not been a good one for care homes, after shocking footage of horrific institutional abuse was broadcast across the media. The events, which took place in North London, have shocked the country, however, to tar all care homes with the same brush would be to ignore the fantastic work being carried out by others within the field. So my high five today is about two Canadian women who have invested their own money into starting Rehab and Retreat, a service for elderly people suffering from disabilities. This service is not only for the elderly, but also for their family and caregivers, who are given an opportunity to ‘play catchup’ with their lives while their loved ones are taking part in individual or group activities. Keltie Brisson and Chelsea KrupaIt started their business in February, and feel they offer a more personalized service (with no waiting list) than is otherwise available; Brisson even organises belly dancing classes! Maybe we have something to learn from the Canadians after all…http://blogs.edmontonjournal.com/2012/04/23/todays-column-new-business-provides-rehabilitation-and-retreat/
