Tech PR company help promote ByteNight charity fundraiser.A SCOTTISH technology company has donated £1,000 as three of their staff members prepare to sleep rough for charity.

Scottish telecoms and network service provider, Commsworld, has pledged the generous sum towards the Action for Children ‘Byte Night’, a national ‘sleep-out’ event.

Staff members, Jane McVey, Mark Wright and Paul Moore will spend the night under the stars to raise money to help change the lives of vulnerable young people.

The trio will spend the night in Blythswood Square in Glasgow in a sleeping bag each to help raise awareness about youth homelessness.

Jane McVey, Senior Account Manager at Commsworld, said: “All money raised will go to help those who are young and homeless in the UK by supporting the amazing work of Action for Children.

“The event starts at 7pm and lasts right through until 7am so we’re hoping the famous Glasgow rain stays away.

“You’re only allowed to take a sleeping bag so I think the main thing will be to wear lots of layers of clothing.

“I’m taking waterproofs just in case and we’re going to be given a survival pack which has an umbrella, foil cover and a torch light.

“We’re also delighted that the firm has committed £1000 to our cause, helping boost our fundraising efforts considerably – it will certainly help spur us on through the night.”

Various sleep-out events are taking place across the UK as the event celebrates its tenth year.

Byte Night was set up in 1998 for workers from the technology industry to give up their beds for one night to raise much needed funds for homeless charities.

Ricky Nicol, CEO at Commsworld, said: “It’s such a terrific event and raises funds for a really important cause so we’re thrilled to get right behind it.

“We’re really proud of Jane, Mark and Paul and think it’s great that they’re doing this to help out young people who are homeless in Scotland.”

Byte Night is one of the UK’s biggest mass participation events and has raised £9.6 million since its inauguration ten years ago.

Participants in this year’s event will hear from young people who have been affected by homelessness and take part in an auction and raffle.

Commsworld is an Edinburgh headquartered firm, with offices in Glasgow and Aberdeen and more than 70 staff.

Founded in 1994, it supports thousands of the country’s leading organisations, in both the Public and Private Sectors, with their business-critical Internet, Data and Voice Communications.

The Commsworld trio will take on the Byte Night challenge on Friday October 6.
