Student Success in Music Business

The HND Music Business students at Edinburgh College will hold a launch party for their record labels.

During their year of work, the students were required to set up their own record labels, to seek for new artists and once finished to organise a launch event showing the results obtained.

As a result, seven independent records have been created by the Edinburgh College students who have picked up artists from across Edinburgh and Glasgow.

During all the process the students have gained invaluable experience of how the music industry works.

Colin McGregor, one of the students said: “It has been a great experience working towards the single launch and setting up our own record label has been rather surreal.

“As I have a lot of experience performing, I began this course to get a more rounded knowledge of the music industry and it has been a huge learning curve for me.

Edinburgh College has given us real working life experience in that we have had to do everything from setting up our own official record labels and talent scouting for artists to marketing, finance and management.”

The singles were recorded at Edinburgh College‘s Milton Road campus and then the tracks were produced by students of the Sound Production course. At the moment each single is available for download through iTunes.

The full coverage can be read on the Edinburgh Evening News and was secured on behalf of Edinburgh College as part of a public relations campaign carried out by Holyrood PR.
