A student’s award-winning design will be used as the logo for Waterfront Edinburgh’s management company.

25-year-old Krzysztof Tuszewski’s colourful design instantly caught the eye of judges Bobby Galloway, of Designworks, Nina McElroy, who will head up the management company, and Cllr Elaine Morris.

The HNC Telford College graphic design students took part in the competition to win a £500 Nikon Digital SLR Camera and a week’s work placement at Design Works. The winner was announced at the college’s end of year design show.

Krzysztof, of Leith, said: “I am very happy to have won this competition – I have a great interest in design and am looking forward to my work placement and using my new camera.

“I wanted the logo to reflect the many faces of the Waterfront project. I used greens for the nature, grey for the building work and blue for the water.”

Waterfront Edinburgh Management will maintain the 120 acres and of land and 1.3km of waterfront owned by Waterfront Edinburgh Ltd, a joint venture between The City of Edinburgh Council and Scottish Enterprise.

As one of the largest urban regeneration projects in Scotland it will, over the next 15 years, transform this land into a new community with high quality residential, leisure, cultural and commercial developments.

Bobby Galloway, of Designworks, said Krzysztof’s design was modern and flexible. He is looking forward to welcoming Krzystof into his studio to see through the design process and complete the brand.

He said: “I was immediately drawn to Krzysztof’s logo. The colours are very striking and simple – perfect for the image of the company.

“It is very versatile and can be applied separately to different aspects within the company.

“We are looking forward to having Krzysztof into the studio and taking him through the entire branding and design process.”

For the past six months Waterfront Edinburgh has been working closely with Scottish Business in the Community to draw up its first detailed Corporate Social Responsibility strategy.

This will ensure all aspects of its work fits with and informs the company’s wider objectives – meaning everything from sponsorship of local groups to decontamination of land has to be considered as part of a bigger picture.

The close relationship with Telford College is one of the links the company enjoys with the local community. Its corporate social responsibility charter includes many initiatives involving people living and working in Granton.

Nina McElroy at Waterfront Edinburgh said: “We were absolutely delighted to work in conjunction with Telford College on this project as we have enjoyed a fantastic relationship with them in the past and look forward to more projects together in the future.

“It was important for us to find a design that reflected the local community and also one that was young, bright and exciting. Krzysztof’s design was perfect for this.

“We would like to say a big thank you and to everyone who took part and made this competition possible. We look forward to further projects with the College.”
