Student Hacker Lisa Breaks Her Way Into The Media

Hacker makes the headlines thanks to successful tech PR
PROVING to be an inspiration – not just for students in her sector – but also to the Scottish media, Lisa Fiander’s appointment to the Scottish Business Resilience Centre (SBRC) was a hit across the media, securing vast amounts of column inches and airtime.
Currently in her third year of study, Lisa recently became the first female to join the Ethical Hackers team at the SBRC in what has been seen to be a traditionally male dominated sector.
The SBRC’s crack team of computer experts go out on the job, providing crucial, affordable services to protect Scottish companies from the growing threat of internet criminals.
Making sure the inspirational story of the young hacker right reached a key and extensive audience, our award winning PR team got in touch with relevant media: local, national, business and radio.
Achieving a staggering amount of print coverage helped get our story to a vast audience of news-hungry Scots. Quality page lead coverage in the Courier and the National, were soon followed by a standout feature in the Perthshire Advertiser -which shared the story of their very own hacker who was born and raised in the fair city.
On top of this, the local papers of Lisa’s University, the Dundee Evening Telegraph shared the story along with the Dundee edition of the Courier. Allowing the story to reach the combined circulation of almost 35,000 Dundee and surrounding area based readers.
With the SBRC’s HQ being in Stirling, there was of course a local interest story there – and sure enough both the Stirling News and Stirling Observer ran positive features.
Finally, the prestigious Scotsman paper featured the story across two print pages – hitting ABC1 target business readers – the very sort likely to enquire about the important services of the SBRC.

Influential business news site, ScotlandB2B was quick to share the story and even embedded our video (above) on their website along with the post. But they weren’t alone, as industry voice, ScotlandIS also posted the story of Lisa the very same day.
The online coverage didn’t stop there with the Scotsman’s new Future Scotland section sharing the story about Lisa on their Facebook, website and in print! Deadline News was also quick to feature Lisa on their website. The National spread the young hacker news both in print and online allowing it to reach a different audience who may not have seen it otherwise.

The story also cracked the radio, to get further positive air-time for the SBRC. Director Mandy Heaburn-Little was interviewed on Good Morning Scotland and Lisa following up with her own feature on Wave FM.
