Properties in St Andrews can still be secured at reasonably priced levels despite a report which showed homes in the town sold on average more than double the prices achieved elsewhere in Fife.

Research by leading estate agents Rettie & Co, showed properties St Andrews had an average selling price of £299,899 in the second quarter of 2017. This is more than double that of Fife where the average value was £149,929.

Compared to the same period in 2013, the average selling price in St Andrews was £236,098 while in Fife overall it was £126,933.

By comparison, a luxury apartment at award winning development The Walled Gardens in St Andrews can be purchased at a more modest price – a third lower than the average price of new build flats sold in the town during the first half of 2017.

Lynda Fleming, Sales and Marketing Manager with Bield, said: “Property prices in St Andrews have historically always been higher than those seen elsewhere in Fife.

“But the slow overall growth of prices in Fife since the recession, paired with the prestigious reputation of St Andrews and its corresponding appeal to homeowners, has seen the town’s prices soar to now double the average selling price in Fife.

“As well as the attraction of living in the world renowned St Andrews, a range of many features in the town, such as the Old Course, the university, and the chic bars and restaurants, are benefiting its housing market.

“But while prices remain buoyant, it doesn’t mean St Andrews is too expensive or a reason not to consider a move. The apartments we offer at The Walled Gardens start from a very attainable price of £176,250 which is almost half the amount of the average property price in St Andrews.”

Located in the heart of St Andrews, award winning luxury retirement development The Walled Gardens comprise of 78 one and two-bedroom retirement apartments which offer independence and peace of mind, blending traditional architecture with modern energy efficient interiors.

As well as offering unprecedented high standards, the apartments are available on a shared ownership basis – an increasingly appealing purchase arrangement. Shared ownership offers the option to purchase a 75% share of the property and then if desired, purchase the remaining 25% after living in the property for one year.

Jointly marketed by Rettie & Co. and locally by Thorntons, the apartments are located just a short walk from the historic town centre. Apartment prices start from £176,250.
