Space Solutions, Scotland’s leading workplace design experts, has underlined the success of the development of its new business operations by recording impressive half year sales figures.
Revenues for the six months to December 2008 topped £9m – up 22% on the same period in 2007 – with net profits showing a significant 24% hike compared to Jul-Dec 2007.
The company is also now running 19% ahead of its £15.5m projected annual turnover for 2008-09.
Space Solutions is Scotland’s biggest independent expert in helping businesses manage changes within the workplace. It operates UK-wide to design, build, fit out, refurbish and relocate modern and productive business environments.
While there has been growth across all divisions, it has been Space Solutions’ specialist Property Intelligence service which helps businesses to succeed during the credit crunch that is helping to drive up the sales surge.
The firm has developed its meticulous approach to the science of space planning and workplace analysis to support businesses experiencing rising overheads or a failure to find finance for expansion to make more efficient use of their space.
Among the major contracts completed in the last six months include Scottish Borders Council.
Managing Director Steve Judge said: “For Space Solutions to not just maintain growth but to see it break through all projections at a time of deepening recession is tremendous achievement.
“We have made a great start over the last six months but the real challenge, particularly in these difficult times, is to ensure we continue to drive the business forward for the rest of the year. However, I believe we are ideally placed, with an excellent workforce and superb range of services not least through our Property Intelligence work, to hit our projected turnover target for the year.”
The Property Intelligence service, which has won clients in both the private and public sector, offers firms and organisations a comprehensive review of their property requirements and provides advice on how to more efficiently occupy their space.
With proper workplace analysis and space planning, businesses are finding they can make significant savings or create vital additional space for an expansion they thought was impossible because of difficulties securing bank finance.
Steve added: “We are educating companies, especially those managing high overheads or wanting to dramatically reshape operations, on how to realise the full potential of one of their greatest assets – their property.
“The growth of our business has very much been client-led and we have reacted to the strong demand from companies who need to sweat their assets like never before.
“But where Space Solutions approach has been an undoubted success, is in not just advising on the need for change, but to provide the skilled staff and expertise to implement these changes through our design, contracts and relocations teams.
“Despite this, we continue to look at ways to grow the company and expect to announce some new breakthroughs on the business development front in the coming months.”
Space Solutions, which has its head office in Aberdeen with bases in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee and Peterborough, currently employs 140 staff.
