A legend at Aberdeen Football Club after making his name there under Alex Ferguson’s management, Strachan has returned to his old turf as guest speaker for the lunch.

The event was put together to raise funds for semi-professional Highland club, Huntly, who chose the iconic location due to Strachan’s ties with the club.

Sodexo Prestige Venues & Events (PV&E), the catering and hospitality partners at Aberdeen Football Club, put together the menu for the special occasion.

The lunch, which saw over 300 guests attend and was held in the stadiums well known hospitality suite – the Aberdeen Asset Management Lounge – and featured a raffle and an auction as part of the club fundraiser.

Paul Quick, General Manager at Aberdeen Football Club said: “It’s great to have Huntly FC chose Pittodrie as their venue of choice for their first sportsman’s lunch.

“It’s also a huge thrill to have Gordon Strachan coming home to the venue which established his reputation at the beginning of his career as he is still such an icon in the city.

“The lunch is an excellent opportunity to showcase the potential Pittodrie has as a venue for sporting lunches and dinners, as well as being a great chance for our team of Sodexo Prestige chefs to display their culinary talents.

“The menu put together for the occasion incorporated top Scottish ingredients such as beef from the nearby town of Inverurie, which confirms our commitment to using fresh, local produce wherever possible in our menus.

“We know how important these kinds of events are for raising money to go towards the daily upkeep of a football club, so we are delighted to be the venue of choice for Huntly FC.”

The auction will include prizes such as golf packages for Skibo Castle and Royal Dornoch, as well as a VIP day for four and hospitality tickets for the director’s box at Aberdeen.

For the event, Huntly FC have also made a generous donation to Aberdeen Football Club Community Trust, a charity run by Aberdeen FC that looks to provide support for the development and delivery of local community programmes associated with the club.

Amanda Brown, National Accounts Director for Sodexo Prestige in Scotland said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to experience the kind of hospitality Pittodrie has to offer and having Gordon Strachan as a guest speaker is a huge draw as he is such a hero in the city – as well as the country as a whole these days.

“We would like to thank Huntly FC for choosing Pittodrie to host their first inaugural sportsman’s lunch and we do hope that they return to the venue for future sporting events.”
