A UK hospitality specialist waved hello to the Chinese ‘Year of the Sheep’ in spectacular fashion last night after delivering an Asian-Scottish celebration that tantalised the taste buds of lucky guests.
Sodexo Prestige Venues & Events, catering and hospitality partners to several of Scotland’s most exclusive venues, including the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (RBGE), hosted a jaw dropping celebration at the prestigious venue to welcome in the annual Asian holiday, ‘Lunar New Year’.
With over 200 clients and supplier partners in attendance at the impressive event, Sodexo Prestige Venues & Events pulled out all the stops, transforming RBGE into a virtual Chinatown, while also raising money for charity.
The colourful event featured tasting stations offering traditional Asian street food while Bollywood and Chinese lion dancers put on a fantastic show that wowed the crowd.
Keen to support Scotland’s Year of Food and Drink 2015, an initiative to highlight Scotland’s well stocked natural larder, the catering experts created a blend of East and West by using fresh, seasonal and locally sourced produce in each mouth watering dish.
Committed to supporting Scotland’s fabulous produce, Sodexo Prestige’ invited its partner suppliers to the event, offering guests in attendance the chance to see and taste first-hand how some of Scotland’s top quality produce had been fused with extravagant Eastern recipes.
The night not only looked to highlight and celebrate Scottish produce in a unique way, but also intended to raise money for Sodexo’s ‘Stop Hunger’ program, a program that looks to fight hunger and malnutrition in local communities across the 30 countries in which Sodexo operates.
Amanda Brown, National Accounts Director for Sodexo Prestige Venues & Events, said: “We were delighted to be able to host an event like this and are thrilled that the evening proved to be such a success.
“As it is the Year of Food and Drink in Scotland, we saw this as a fantastic way to merge East and West by hosting an event that would celebrate the beginning of Lunar New Year and our delicious Scottish produce.
“We are a company that has a strong commitment to the provenance of the food that we use in our dishes, so we were truly delighted to be able to use fresh and seasonal produce in our food and have our suppliers showcase to guests where exactly this produce comes from.
“To do all this and to be able to raise money for our own charity through the raffle was wonderful and we couldn’t be more grateful to those who donated to this excellent cause.
“We would like to thank those who attended the event, as well as thank our suppliers for coming along to what proved to be an extremely successful evening.”
In addition to the culinary delights on offer, the award winning caterer added to the Eastern feel of the evening with Chinese lanterns throughout the venue and demonstrations of Thai Chi.
The Lunar New Year is celebrated in different ways in many Asian countries. The most famous celebration is Chinese New Year, which attaches different astrological animal signs to the next 12 month in a cycle of 12 years.
However, 2015’s year of the “Yang” has caused debate across the globe with no definite answer on whether the animal from the caprinae subfamily is a sheep, goat or antelope.
