ONE OF Scotland’s leading providers of housing and care for older people in Scotland has paid tribute to a cat that was used as a form of therapy for residents in one of its care homes after it passed away last week – social care PR

Bield’s Grants Bank care home in Dunfermline sadly lost its cat Jill after it provided residents with company for the past eighteen years and made a mark on their lives.

She was bought as a present to the home when it first opened as part of a scheme to help use pets as a form of therapy for older people.

Helen Thompson, Service Manager in Care Services for Bield, said: “It’s extremely sad for all the residents and staff at Grants Bank to have lost Jill the cat.

“After being given as a gift along with her brother Jack who passed away around five years ago, Jill was a constant fixture at the service for more than eighteen years and brought a lot of joy to everyone that has both lived and worked there over the years.”

Pet ownership and interaction is recognised as valuable for those in care homes or supported living and Bield is fulfilling this need by allowing people to bring their pet with them or introducing animals to various care homes and day care centres.

This coverage was secured with the Dunfermline Press as part of a secured PR campaign carried out by Holyrood PR on behalf of Bield.
