A HOUSING development in North Lanarkshire is encouraging the local community to get behind a kindness initiative to bring messages of hope to vulnerable and elderly customers during the festive period.

Campsie Gardens, a retirement development managed by Bield Housing and Care in Cumbernauld, is looking to keep customers motivated with the introduction of a – ‘Tree of Hope’, to remind them that better times lie ahead in the New Year.

The ‘Tree of Hope’ will be displayed in the main foyer so customers and staff can easily access and read the messages whenever they need a little pick me up, or to be reminded this uncertain period won’t last forever.

Messages of hope have already flooded in from local primary school St Mary’s, as well as members of the community and those with a connection to the development.

Margaret McCallum, Development Manager at Campsie Gardens and the brains behind the project, said: “Everyone is really looking forward to getting the tree up and sharing positive messages. In the development we have had lots of conversations revolving around hope and light at the end of the tunnel so it just seemed right to have something central in the development to highlight this.

“The year has been really tough for many people and unfortunately we don’t anticipate the next few months will get easier, which is why we wanted to do something to cheer everyone up, ensuring the festive period is still a happy, joyful time and one to remember positively.

“We hope everyone will get involved in the Christmas Tree of Hope. From family and friends of customers, to staff, the local community and other Bield developments across Scotland – we encourage everyone to spread a little Christmas cheer.”

Messages of hope can be sent through social media or directly to the development on a gift tag.

Campsie Gardens is a retirement housing development located in Cumbernauld, North Lanarkshire. The development offers spacious properties ideal for people aged 60 and over who wish to retain their independence, but want to leave the worries of repairs and looking after the garden to someone else.

The development is 3 storeys high and consists of 25 flats and 2 cottages with meals being provided the customers.

Bield is a registered charity which grew from humble beginnings, starting out with one housing development in Bo’ness to become a major provider of housing and care services for around 20,000 older people across 23 local authority areas.

Bield’s new strategy for property development provides housing solutions – with greater choice and flexibility – to address the needs of the current generation of older people and the next.
