Social care PR experts helped one of Scotland’s largest housing providers celebrate its 50th anniversary with a successful integrated PR campaign – and the appearance of a few famous Scottish faces along the way.

Bield Housing and Care, which has been a leading figure in the housing industry since 1971, celebrated its 50th anniversary of operating in the sector on 17 March 2021.

The team at Holyrood PR was delighted to be asked to play a key roll in all aspects of the celebration, from media relations and the logistics of involving staff and customers at every step, to providing all content for a special bulletin feature and assisting with a virtual event.

Bield pull together a magazine twice a year, and wanted one dedicated to the 50th anniversary celebrations which would showcase all of the amazing things which have happened throughout the years, as well as looking to the future.

We researched milestones for Bield, and spoke with more than 30 employees and customers to find out their fascinating stories and experiences with the housing provider. From there, we drafted short and snappy content, created attractive titles, and regularly brainstormed ideas to ensure we were consistently putting creative and unique ideas to the client. We also started work on creating a word search and coordinating a birthday cake competition.

From here, our team helped steer the editorial values and layout of the bulletin, working with both the client and design agency.

As this was a major milestone event for Bield, we were keen to make it as special as possible. We put our heads together to come up with a list of famous Scots to reach out to for messages of support and congratulations.

To our delight, we secured five video messages (all free of charge) congratulating Bield on its milestone anniversary, to be used as part of the virtual event. These included: Still Game stars, Sanjeev Singh Kohli and Mark Cox, Hibernian F.C captain, David Gray, Scotland’s Senior Clinical Advisor, Jason Leitch and CEO of SFHA, Sally Thomas.

Unfortunately Bield could not bring their customers and staff together quite like they had hoped, due to Covid-19 regulation and restrictions, so it was up to the Holyrood PR team to put their heads together and come up with another way to celebrate the occasion.

The ‘Big Night In’ was held on 17 March and celebrated Bield’s legacy with a eight-minute-long video, which customers and staff could log on to watch from the comfort and safety of their own home.

The video included guest speakers, a trip down memory lane, looking to the future and congratulatory messages from some of Scotland’s most well known celebrities and key industry figures.

The Holyrood PR team was proud to celebrate this milestone with our longstanding client Bield, and look forward to continuing the celebrations throughout the year.
