Skyrora’s 380 mile quest to inspire the next generation blasts into headlines thanks to tech PR

ENGINEERS and STEM ambassadors from Edinburgh-headquartered Skyrora have made the 380-mile journey to South Wales to help a group of Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers earn their space badge – thanks to a simple tweet.

The intergalactic event came about after Skyrora responded to the mum of space mad six-year-old, Lexie, who told mum Sam of her ambitions to work for the space firm after holidaying near their test site in Cornwall.

As well as helping the girls earn their badge, the event also informed them of the diverse range of careers available in this exciting industry, with the budding space enthusiasts taking part in a series of educational activities to earn the specially designed space badge.

We told the story of the intergalactic event, with highlights including:

  • Valuable online and print articles in local outlet, South Wales Argus – read by nearly 70,000 residents
  • Coverage in leading Scottish title – The National
  • Shares on Twitter and Facebook – reaching over 150,000 people on social media alone
  • 12 items of coverage and a total of over 290,000 opportunities to see the story

Skyrora is currently developing launch vehicle technology that builds on previous rocket systems, having successfully transported the Black Arrow rocket – the UK’s only rocket to reach orbit – back to the UK from the Australian outback earlier this year.

“It’s up to our STEM ambassadors to inspire the next generation and make sure we have the future engineers to continue their work.”

Sharing the news of the rocket developer’s dedication to inspiring the next generation is vital in ensuring their reputation as a Scottish firm at the heart of the UK space rate, drawing on British launch to capture its share of the fast-growing small satellite launch market.
