The Sick Kids Friends Foundation (SKFF) supports the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh and has committed to contribute £2.9million towards its move to a new, purpose-built home at Little France in 2017.

Now, the charity is to inform its supporters across Edinburgh and the Lothians how it will provide innovative enhancements and equipment to transform the experiences of the children and young people who will use the new hospital.

Pippa Johnston, Director of Fundraising and Marketing at SKFF, is encouraging clubs, organisations and societies to embrace the opportunity to book a free Speaker to find out more about the crucial work the charity does.

Pippa said: “This is a really exciting time for Edinburgh, with the much loved ‘Sick Kids’ hospital moving to a new home, and we want to tell everyone all about it.

“Many people don’t realise that the fun distractions, games and decor that can help a child feel much less frightened when they come into the hospital are funded by the SKFF, and we also fund grants for cutting edge enhancements and equipment – this will continue to be the case in our new home.

“We exist to ensure children and young people’s lives are less interrupted by illness and that they have a more positive hospital experience. We want to share our exciting plans for the new hospital with the local community, and ensure people are well informed of the life-changing projects we fund and the supportive work that we do.”

Last year, the SKFF awarded grants to enhance nine areas of the Royal Hospital for Sick Children, including the bereavement suite and A&E waiting rooms. There were 48 grants awarded for comforts which included toys, technology such as DVD players or iPads, arts & crafts and the Beads of Courage programme. In addition, almost 20 pieces of equipment to improve the care of children were funded.
