Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity Press releases

Sick Kids Friends Foundation Girly Get TogetherAn Edinburgh-based charity has raised a staggering £80,000, after it saw hundreds of fashionistas flock to its annual Ladies Night fundraiser to support children in hospital and their families.

The Girly Get Together, hosted by Forth One Radio DJ Grant Stott at Prestonfield House Hotel, saw the Sick Kids Friends Foundation smash its previous years fundraising target by nearly £40k after the event saw every table in the house filled.

The sell-out bash included a live performance from a choir made up of staff from the Royal Hospital for Sick Children, a live auction, an oyster shell fishing competition to win a pair of £3,000 diamond earrings, the chance to win a top of the range Range Rover and so much more. Ladies were served drinks on arrival by special guests from Heriot’s Rugby Team and then treated to a lavish three course meal and plenty more bubbly throughout the evening.

Sarah Thompson was the lucky winner of the £3K diamond earrings at the charity bash. She said: “The Girly Get Together was such a fun packed night with an amazing and supportive ambience, made all the better by the knowledge that everyone was contributing to such a fantastic and worthwhile cause. I will definitely be signing up for next year.

“Winning the earrings on the night came as a complete shock and I still can’t quite believe it – I feel very very lucky indeed and hope to be wearing them soon over the festive season.”

The Sick Kids Friends Foundation supports the Royal Hospital for Sick Children and has committed to contribute £3m towards its move to a new, purpose-built home at Little France in 2017.
Pippa Johnston, Director of Marketing and Fundraising at SKFF, said: “Our Girly Get Together fundraiser was a huge success and we’re absolutely delighted to have completely smashed our target and raised a whopping £80k.

“In fact, it was so successful that we’ve already sold 25 out of our 35 tables for next year’s bash.

“This is a really exciting time for Edinburgh, with the much loved ‘Sick Kids’ hospital moving to a new home. At SKFF, we’re committed to providing the same invaluable support to the new children’s hospital at little France as we have given for many years to the current hospital here at Sciennes.

“Indeed, by the time the new hospital opens its doors to children and young people, SKFF will have contributed some £3 million worth of art and therapeutic design enhancements.

“Once the hospital opens, SKFF will continue our vital work to ensure that children and young people’s lives are less interrupted by illness, they have a positive experience of hospital and their families continue to be supported and comforted.”
