A CHARITY dedicated to improving hospital visits for children and their families is to better showcase its unsung work – with help from Scotland’s top public relations experts.

The Sick Kids Friends Foundation (SKFF) has appointed Edinburgh-based Holyrood PR, which was recently crowned Scotland’s most outstanding small public relations agency.

Public relations for the Sick Kids Friends Foundation, SKFFHolyrood PR won the account for SKFF, which is the charity which supports the work of Edinburgh’s Royal Hospital for Sick Children, in a competitive four way pitch.

Holyrood PR, a 10-strong team of communications experts spanning writing, photography and video, has also been appointed to work with a second charity, the Scottish Schools Pipes and Drums Trust (SSPDT).

Scottish School Pipe Band ChampionshipsIt is the body devoted to safeguarding and promoting the teaching of bagpipes – Scotland’s iconic national instrument – in schools across the country. It chose Holyrood PR to manage its novel “bagpipe amnesty” campaign.

The double  success comes after Holyrood PR, whose clients include Bupa, CALA Homes and Scottish Water, picked up a range of big-name clients  at the end of 2015, including Musselburgh Racecourse, Edinburgh style hotel Tigerlily and the City of Perth Winter Festival.

Raymond Notarangelo, who co-founded Holyrood PR in 2002 along with fellow journalist Scott Douglas, said: “We wanted to ensure we got 2016 off to flier after ending 2015 on such a high – and that has certainly happened.

“As well as landing the SKFF and SSPDT, we had an incredibly busy January in being approached or invited to present for a range of other clients. We are very hopeful that a number of these will come through in the coming weeks and add to Holyrood PR’s impressive roster of clients.

“Winning the SKFF account was a particular highlight for us. Like anyone who has lived, worked and raised a family in Edinburgh, it is impossible not to have your life touched in some way by the amazing work it carries out on behalf of the Sick Kids hospital.”

Roslyn Neely in a PR photoRoslyn Neely, chief executive at SKFF, said she is delighted to be working with the team at Holyrood PR and had seen an immediate impact thanks to their powerful storytelling skills.

She added: “We exist to transform the experiences of children and young people in hospital so they can be a child first and a patient second.  This is only possible through the generous charitable support which the public give us each year. It is so important, therefore, that our messages are clearly highlighted to show the difference which their support makes.

“We wanted to find an agency with a real can-do attitude but combined with superb experience, energy, contacts and creativity to deliver our objective – and we have found that with Holyrood PR.”

Holyrood PR will be working to promote a new strategy to showcase the impact the SKFF makes across patients, their families, medics and the NHS – as well as providing crucial support ahead of the opening of the new Royal Hospital for Sick Children in 2017.

Meanwhile, the Leith-based agency has also agreed to provide a package of pro-bono support to SKFF which will see the charity have access to the agency’s highly regarded video service to produce videos throughout 2016.

Meanwhile, the SSPDT have already scored widespread coverage and sparked interest from around the world thanks to Holyrood PR’s bagpipe amnesty campaign – which aimed to secure donations of old bagpipes to be refurbished to help young players learn the instrument.

Holyrood PR organised a media launch in Glasgow which attracted coverage from BBC and STV, as well as scoring a sweep of influential coverage in the both national and local media across Scotland, as well as further afield.
