Anti crime organisation uses PR agency in Edinburgh to highlight the threat within
The Scottish Business Resilience Centre (SBRC) revealed that fraud in Scotland will reach £3billion this year, with the majority of guilty parties being dishonest employees at the heart of Scottish organisations.
SBRC will hold an ‘Insider Threat’ conference in Edinburgh on February 12, 2015, with insights from Homeland Security, Police Scotland and Napier University, with the aim of equipping businesses with practical advice to meet and tackle the threat.
Read on to find out how we helped SBRC to reach millions of people across Scotland with news of the insider threat, thanks to a highly successful PR campaign.
The Scotsman were first to feature the insider fraud story on January 19. The best-known Scottish quality newspaper reaches almost 90,000 readers daily in print and huge numbers more through its website. It is also renowned as a vital voice in Scottish business and reaches the political elite at the Scottish parliament.
Further reach to the all-important business community was achieved when the story was also featured in all of The Scottish Business News Networks (Aberdeen, Highland, Tayside, Lothian and Strathclyde) and The Economic Voice, an online news and opinions website.
The story was then picked up a national press including The Metro, The Herald, The Scottish Sun and a second feature in The Scotsman. With a combined average daily circulation of almost 500,000 that meant the SBRC’s warning reached a potential audience of 1.5 million people.
The story was later picked up again by The Scotsman at the start of February where there was an article written in first person by SBRC which gave a more personal view on the matter.
In the coverage Brian Gibson, deputy director of The SBRC, says: “It’s in everyone’s best interest that we stop being complacent and work together to stop these crimes.
“That’s why we believe it is important for businesses and organisations to attend our Insider Threat conference.”
“We want businesses to understand there is something that they can do to help stop this – we’re not just looking to raise awareness.”
SBRC is a unique organisation backed by the Scottish Government, Police Scotland, Scottish Fire and Rescue, major banks, industries, investors and private members. It was set up with the objective of creating a secure Scotland for business to flourish, encompassing everything from cyber security to all aspects of premises and employee safety.
