EVER SINCE I graduated from Fashion Communications in 2018, I have always been intrigued by the world of PR and the inner working of a successful agency.

Throughout my time at university, I was fortunate enough to intern at companies such as Mulberry and John Lewis in their PR teams and thoroughly enjoyed getting an insight into the busy world of fashion PR.

However, since I graduated I decided to take a break from my career and venture to Australia to work and travel.

Since I landed back home right in the middle of a global pandemic, I found that my next goal of landing a potential career job might have to be put on the back burner whilst the world fixed itself. After what felt like months of applying to no avail, I was lucky enough to secure this internship with Holyrood PR and kick-start my career back into gear.

And what a first week it has been! I can honestly say that the week has flown by and I’ve learned so much already. I’ve helped form research documents for upcoming clients, created success posts, designed graphics on Canva, and helped create social content for International Women’s Day.

Being part of such a small team has allowed me to get more hands-on experience, and I think one of the best things I’ve learned so far is that no question is a bad question. From day one the team welcomed me in with open arms and made me feel welcome, there’s never been a moment where I’ve been afraid to ask for help and I think that reflects well in the inclusive nature of the team. I’m already excited about what the next few weeks will hold!

This has been exactly what I’ve been looking for. There are so many positive reasons why it’s worth working for an award-winning PR agency like this, and I wanted to get involved in the variety of clients that Holyrood has. It’s fast-paced, varied, and allows you to build a range of skills that takes you from one client to the next, proving that there’s never a dull moment in PR.

Even after just one week, I’ve already worked on some amazing clients including CALA Homes, Edinburgh First, and Clyde Munro. I’m excited to continue working alongside these companies.

I’m grateful to Holyrood for letting me become a part of their team, and after a whirlwind of a first week, I know there is still so much good stuff to come.

To any nervous students/graduates reading this post and wondering if this internship is right for them, I would say there’s no need to worry at all. This is a great company, with great people and an opportunity to gain valuable experience that will look great on your CV.

9-5 never looked so good.
