Staff at workplace design company Space Solutions have been celebrating after scooping a new piece of press coverage in the prestigious Press & Journal newspaper.

The company, which is Scotland’s leading office design specialist, was featured in the broadsheet newspaper with a story about how it had recently being awarded with an ISO 14001:2004 certificate for its green credentials.

The company’s in-house Sustainability Team including, Environment Consultant Rhona Turnbull and architect and BREEAM Assessor Stuart Foster, led a sweeping review of day-to-day practices. They invoked a series of improvements which helped achieve ISO 14001:2004 certification through the British Standards Institute. This will now guide every facet of Space Solutions’ work.

The BBC ran a story about how the company’s subsidiary firm Gatts was “keeping alive” old-fashioned crafts such as furniture restoration and french polishing.

The article said that Gatts was picking up business as a result of the credit crunch, as more people were looking to restore their furniture than buy new items. It added that the firm had begun to take on school leavers and train them in old techniques such as french polishing in order to ensure that the skills were kept alive by future generations.
