Extensive coverage a breeze for renewables firm

Banks Renewables enjoys a bumper month of coverage thanks to Scottish PR experts

OCTOBER was a busy month for our client, Banks Renewables, as it revealed not one but two stories which caught the eye of local, national and trade press.

The Hamilton-based renewables firm was officially given the green light by the Scottish Government for its Lethans Wind Farm – which will become the tallest wind farm in Scotland. It also uncovered a rare insect at its Kype Muir wind farm – the caddisfly – which hadn’t been seen in the local area for more than 100 years.

Highlights included:

  • 21 pieces of coverage across print, social and online
  • 219,317 opportunities for key stakeholders to see Banks’ news
  • National coverage in The Herald
  • Trade hits in Energy Live News, Renewables Now, ReNews, Energy Voice
  • Two broadcast interviews on West Sound Radio and That’s TV
  • Local coverage in the Cumnock Chronicle and Carluke Gazette

Understanding the importance of both of these stories for our client was paramount – both stories hit two very different milestones.

Lethans is set to become the tallest wind farm in the country, and will deliver a host of benefits to the local community as well as generating clean, green electricity. A story worth shouting about, we worked with Banks Renewables and independent consultant Natural Power to craft a press release and shared it with business, trade, environmental and national press – securing some excellent hits in the process.

Kype Muir, Banks’ second wind farm in South Lanarkshire, recorded the first sighting of a threatened species in more than 100 years – the humble caddisfly. A quirkier story, we worked closely with Banks and the principal development planner, Rachel Allum, to go through the ecology reports and create an eye-catching media release for local and trade press.

As well as securing national and trade coverage (reaching the right stakeholders and contacts for our client), they also continued to build Banks’ relationships with the local communities through local and regional coverage. This local coverage is so important in communicating Banks’ messages directly with the communities it operates in.

These two stories, shared in quick succession, are equally as important to our client. Not only is Banks Renewables focused on delivering renewable electricity to Scotland, it’s extremely careful not to disturb the surrounding environment.

Both of these stories speak to Banks’ commitment to ensure their projects deliver tangible and lasting environmental (as well as social and economic) benefits to the areas and communities they operate in – without damaging the ecology of the area.

The original releases can be read here and here.
