Members of the local community are invited to learn more about proposals to optimise the generation capacity of a South Lanarkshire wind farm.

The community exhibition event is taking place at Ballgreen Hall, 34 Glasgow Road, Strathaven, ML10 6LZ, between 2.30pm and 6.30pm on the 27th and 28th March 2018.

Those who are unable to attend can contribute comments at the following locations:

  • Sandford Village Hall
  • Lifestyles, Stonehouse
  • Lesmahagow Library
  • Blackwood and Kirkmuirhill Community Wing

Hamilton based Banks Renewables secured planning permission in 2016 for the 15 turbine, Kype Muir Extension wind farm.

However, the family business is now looking at ways to make the project, which lies 5km south of Strathaven, more efficient to generate even more green electricity and to deliver significant social, economic and environmental benefits with local communities over a 25 year period.

Banks Renewables is now inviting members of the public to find out more about these plans and to provide feedback on the new proposals.

Colin Anderson, development director with Banks Renewables, said: “Throughout the process, the local communities have talked to us very positively and have wanted to ensure that any proposals coming forward work for their areas.

“This latest event is a further opportunity to continue this positive dialogue, which really does help to shape our proposals and the way we think.

“We’re very proud of our Connect2Renewables Charter which was developed with the support of communities in South Lanarkshire. This commits us to ensure that as much of the contract work as possible goes to local businesses and already during the ongoing construction of the neighbouring Kype Muir Wind Farm, over 35 businesses within 30km of the wind farm have been awarded contracts totalling over £14m.

“The construction of Kype Muir Wind Farm represents a landmark investment from Banks Renewables in South Lanarkshire and the project will continue to support local groups, businesses and people over the next 25 years. Hopefully Kype Muir Extension can add to that positive legacy”

Those who attend the public exhibitions will also be able to learn more about the progress of construction of Kype Muir Wind Farm, which is currently on track to be connected to the National Grid early next year – 2019.
