Bield’s Ochilview Court Receives Golden Media Coverage For CANalympics
Residents of Bield’s West Lothian retirement housing development, Ochilview Court, participated in a local sporting event – the CANalympics.
The CANalympics is a local sporting event that is run by the West Lothian Care Activity Network. It has been very successful over the past four years, encouraging older people in in care homes, day care, sheltered housing and care at home to meet other tenants in the local area and increase their physical activity levels.
“It is a really effective way to bring everyone in the local community together and for the tenants to meet up and chat with those from other developments in the area. It also highlights the importance of exercise for people of all ages and encourages the tenants to keep physically active and have fun while they do it.”
The event proved to be a golden success among residents as and local media publications; winning a full-page spread of coverage in the West Lothian Courier which accounts for an audience of 8513 readers. It also saw exposure in the Scottish Housing News and Housing Scotland Today.
The media coverage the CANalympics received, contributed to further integrating care developments with their local communities.
Bield is a registered charity that came from humble beginnings, starting out with just one development in Bo’ness to become a major of a wide range of housing and services for around 20,000 older people across 23 local authority areas.
