Cyber Security Pioneers to be Recognised at the Third Scottish Cyber Awards
Thursday, June 7th, 2018
on behalf of Scottish Cyber Awards
APPLICATIONS are now open for the largest awards event recognising the critical importance of cyber security in Scotland.
Following the previous year’s record success, the Scottish Cyber Awards celebrate the innovators, pioneers and leaders across industries, including public and private sector, as well the world of academia.
Hosted by the Scottish Business Resilience Centre (SBRC) and first held in 2016, the event saw a growth in popularity, expanding into a larger venue and seeing the number of applications and attendees increase significantly over the last two years.
The wide range of awards will draw attention to the bright minds who often work behind the scenes – and the increased popularity reflects the growth of what is becoming a critical industry for Scotland’s economic prosperity.
Mandy Haeburn-Little, Chief Executive of the SBRC, said: “This event will undoubtedly help to shine a spotlight on Scotland’s increasingly global standing as leaders in the battle against cyber-crime.
“That is thanks to a huge body of established and new talent amongst the country’s cyber security influencers – and each year the number and quality of applications surpasses even our most optimistic expectations.
“The success of previous ceremonies reflects the need to recognise these individuals and companies, who work tirelessly to make Scotland a safer and more prosperous place for everyone.
“We should be proud to speak up about our cyber security success stories – and the heroes within the industry, whether they are preparing our next generation, or directly protecting us from often malicious attacks.”
This year’s award categories include: Best Cyber Breakthrough, Best Cyber Education Programme, Outstanding Cyber Team, Best Cyber Start-Up, Best New Cyber Talent, Collaboration with Police Scotland, Cyber Evangelist of the Year, Cyber Security Teacher of the Year, Leading Light Innovation Award, Outstanding Woman in Cyber.
Individuals and companies are encouraged to apply themselves or nominate other candidates whom they feel deserve to be recognised.
The winners will be picked by an expert panel of cyber specialists from various industries and presented with one of the specially designed awards.
New to this year is the first category voted for by the public, Best Customer Experience, recognising organisations that have gone above and beyond to provide excellent service. The best nominations will be put to the public ahead of the awards in October.
Last year’s big winners included Toni Scullion of St Kentigern’s Academy in Blackburn who took home both the Champion of Champions 2017 Award and Cyber Security Teacher of the Year Award.
Other winners included Alison Brogan from ECS Security Ltd, ID Cyber Solutions (Best Cyber Start-Up Award), My1Login (International Contribution to Cyber Award) and Clydesdale Bank (Outstanding Cyber Team Award).
Applications open today (7th June) and will close on Friday 7th September 2018.
The Cyber Awards Ceremony will be held on Wednesday 28th November, returning to the Sheraton Hotel in Edinburgh.
