G1 Group Press releases

Runners 1 ResizeWith New Year’s resolutions in full swing, fitness fanatics can wave goodbye to crowded, stuffy gyms and instead lace up and embrace a workout with a view of one of the world’s most iconic capital cities.

From running up the Royal Mile, planking in Princes Street Gardens to ab crunching on Calton Hill, visitors to Edinburgh’s trendiest new hotel can now enjoy a whistle stop tour of the city whilst keeping fit.

Ideally located at the heart of Edinburgh’s Old Town, STAY Central Hotel is now offering guests and locals alike the chance to get fit in the most scenic of surroundings.

Rachel Duff, General Manager at STAY Central, said: “At STAY Central we aim to ensure that our guests have a memorable time by offering them a whole range of unique services.

“We know working out can be a chore for even the most motivated among us so we thought we would combine a range of workouts with a whirlwind trip around some of Edinburgh’s stunning sites, to keep our guests inspired while they stay fit.

“So far the feedback from our urban gym classes has been tremendous with guests able to see a side of Edinburgh that they may not normally, had they stuck to the traditional tourist track.

“Locals and staff have also been enjoying the sessions and the camaraderie and the sense of team spirit that the group exercise creates truly encourages people of all abilities to push their fitness levels and most importantly have fun at the same time.”

STAY Central offers four, hour long sessions a week – either running or on bicycle – that are free to attend for both guests and Edinburgh residents. The run club takes place on Wednesday evening at 6.30pm and Sunday morning at 11am; the cycle club (bikes can be rented from the hotel) is held every Thursday at 6.30pm with the urban gym sessions every Saturday morning at 9am.

The sessions are run by qualified fitness instructors and include the all important warm up period to ensure participants are ready and raring to go whatever the Scottish weather may have in store.

Workouts are also followed by a cool down session to gently restore normal heart rates and stretch out muscles leaving participants rejuvenated and ready for the day ahead.

Nicola Cockburn, fitness instructor, said: “It’s really exciting to be involved with a new fitness project which utilises the fantastic views we are lucky enough to have right on our very doorstep.

“Just because you’re on holiday or business doesn’t mean you can’t work out and we wanted to give guests at STAY Central the perfect opportunity to stick to their fitness regimes whilst being away from home.

“The run and cycle clubs are great cardio workouts whilst the urban gym focuses on interval training to get the blood pumping followed by circuits including squats, lunges, burpees and planks which are ideal for toning.

“All of the sessions are completely free of charge and open to non-guests so locals can kick start the New Year with a new body without having to pay expensive gym membership fees.

“Our workouts are equipment free, using only body weight and are broken down into a variety of levels so that people of all abilities can join in without feeling out of their comfort zone.

“It really is a great initiative and I would urge anyone looking for a fun, new way of keeping fit to get involved.”

STAY Central Hotel is the perfect location for both business and leisure travellers, ideally positioned in the heart of Edinburgh’s Old Town. From this prime location in the Cowgate, it is a mere three minute walk to the centre of The Royal Mile and many of Edinburgh’s famous landmarks.
