Water-saving initiative by Scottish water retailer captures imaginations – and the media’s attention with Edinburgh PR experts

A GROUND-BREAKING eco initiative rolled out by one of Scotland’s top water retailers has delivered exceptional media results, as Business Stream’s national school-focused project flowed into key headlines and communities across the country – thanks to Edinburgh PR experts.
The campaign, which involved distributing water butts to 120 primary schools in five council areas, was not only an impactful demonstration of Business Stream’s environmental credentials, but also a prime example of how savvy Business PR can amplify community-led initiatives to a wide audience.
Business Stream, under its Public Sector Scotland (PSS) Framework commitments, supplied the rainwater-collecting devices to schools across Scotland.
Each water butt is estimated to save up to 2,000 litres of water annually, encouraging sustainability and delivering real-world learning experiences for pupils.
The project also supports Business Stream’s wider environmental strategy, forming part of the 30+ ESG initiatives under its “Make A Positive Difference” (MAPD) vision.
Designed to promote environmental education in a hands-on way, schools were invited to safely install the butts to enhance gardening and outdoor learning spaces, with feedback invited from participating local authorities to shape future impact reports.
