Alistir Wood Tait, the leading antique and fine jewellery specialist retailer, has announced a sponsorship scheme to help the jewellers of the future to sparkle.

The Edinburgh-based business is to provide financial support to Edinburgh College of Art’s jewellery department students to help them show off their talents at a top London design show this/next week.

Dorothy Hogg, Head of the Jewellery Department, said the £1000 donation from Alistir Wood Tait, would be used to off-set the cost of attending the New Designers show at London’s Business Design Centre, July 1-4.

She said: “Attending events of this type are essential if we are to bring our students to the attention of the commercial sector. This is the main event to showcase the work of our students to the industry across the UK, but without the support of Alistir Wood Tait this would be extremely difficult for students to afford.”

The college’s degree course has won wide national and international recognition and students frequently win all the top industry and design prizes.

Alistir Tait, sole director of Alistir Wood Tait, said he was delighted to be playing a part in fostering the next generation of jewellery talent.

He said: “I believe it is important for companies like mine to provide what help it can to encourage this talent and ensure Scotland continues to produce excellent young designers.

“We have an exceptional wealth of young, exciting jewellery designers in Scotland and Edinburgh College of Art is at the forefront in developing these skills. I hope these students will continue to attract wide attention and start to secure leading positions in the industry.”
