A COUNTRYSIDE home which inspired Peter Pan author J. M. Barrie to pen some of his best works has landed on the market.

The Manse is situated on the edge of Glenprosen village near Kirriemuir, Angus, where the author was born and spent his early life.

Occupying a south facing, elevated hillside position, the property boasts stunning views across the glen and is surrounded by private, mature gardens. It is situated at the start of the Ministers Path, which links Glenprosen and Glenclova.

It is on the market with Bell Ingram land and estate agents for offers over £200,000.

Charlotte Gilfillan, Senior Land Agent at Bell Ingram said: “This is a rare chance to buy a small piece of local history, which would also make the perfect family home.

“Located on the southern edge of the Cairngorms National Park, the Manse is peaceful and secluded but still accessible, and it’s clear to see why J. M. Barrie took so much inspiration from the area in his writing.

“This is an exciting opportunity for someone to renovate this special property into a comfortable and modern family home – and has great potential for expansion into the old vestry that adjoins the property.”

Several of Barrie’s stories are set in this part of the world and it is thought that the Manse was the inspiration for the home of Reverend Adam Yestreen in Barrie’s ‘Farewell Miss Julie Logan’.

The property is accessed by private driveway leading from the back of Glenprosen church, and has ample parking space, as well as a timber garage.

There are three good-sized bedrooms on the first floor, as well as a family bathroom.

Downstairs there is potential for three large living spaces, thanks to a particularly spacious drawing room.

There is also a kitchen, as well as a dining room, utility room and plenty of storage space.

Charlotte added: “The Manse is the type of property which has space to grow, surrounded by some of the best views Scotland has to offer.

“Local amenities can be found in nearby Kirriemuir, which has a host of shops, eateries and high ranking local schooling.

“The busier city hubs of Dundee and Perth are within driving distance from the property, and it is well served by air and train routes from Dundee and Aberdeen.”

The surrounding area is an outdoor adventure playground and can be explored by foot, bike and, in the cooler months, by skis.

The local Glen Clova Hotel provides accommodation, restaurant and guest lodges, and also issues permits for fishing on Loch Heath for rainbow and brown trout.

A successful playwright and novelist, J.M. Barrie was born in Scotland in 1860 and is most famous for writing Peter Pan, an ageless boy who had adventures around the fantasy setting of Neverland.

Prior to his death aged 77, Barrie gave the rights to Great Ormond Street Hospital in London, which continue to benefit from them to this day.

Viewings of The Manse can be arranged by calling Bell Ingram’s Forfar office on 01307 462516.

Established 112 years ago, Bell Ingram has 130 professional staff across 11 UK offices, including chartered surveyors, estate and forestry managers, architects and estate agents.
