BUYERS at one of Scotland’s most highly-anticipated city centre developments will be able to benefit from comprehensive electric vehicle (EV) charging provision.

CALA Homes (East) has revealed that its Boroughmuir development, the refurbishment of a distinguished south Edinburgh high school building, will offer easily accessible plug in points for all 87 apartments to benefit from.

The move will see 20 pillars installed throughout the resident’s car park that wraps around the building. Each pillar will in turn have two charging points within easy reach of between three and seven bays – transforming it into one of the capital’s largest private charging hubs.

CALA’s latest commitment follows on from its announcement last year that it would create Scotland’s most comprehensive residential EV provision at its nearby Edinburgh development, The Crescent at Donaldson’s.

Philip Hogg, Sales and Marketing Director with CALA Homes (East), said: “With Boroughmuir we are delivering a careful marriage of the traditional with the future.

“As well as being the case within the open plan and mezzanine apartments, this is also true outside, where all buyers will be able to benefit from easy to access charge points.

“We also take our environmental responsibilities seriously and want to break down the barriers that hold buyers back from EVs. Clearly a lack of charge points, in city developments in particular, is often a big reason people don’t opt for electric.”

Optimum charging speeds of 30 miles of range per hour will be on offer across the 40 charging points, which are being installed by Pod Point, one of the UK’s leading providers of EV charging.

Previously the home of Boroughmuir High School, the building was constructed between 1911 and 1914 by renowned architect, John Alexander Carfrae and was as pioneering back then – as it was one of the first buildings in Edinburgh to utilise steel frame construction.

The restoration of the Grade B listed building is being executed with care and attention to maintain the former school’s original character, exemplified by the preservation of 430 sash and case windows which create a centre piece to fill each home with natural light.

CALA launched on-site last month with a show apartment designed by renowned interior designer Eileen Kesson in partnership with Danish luxury lifestyle brand BoConcept.

Now open daily, the show apartment perfectly encapsulates the development’s signature vast double-height ceilings, loft-style living and statement mezzanine bedrooms.

At present, a range of one, two and three bedroom apartments are available from £375,000 – £845,000.
