Hunters-psm, the leading Edinburgh and Fife estate agents and solicitors, has recorded its best-ever month of sales – signalling further evidence of the continued buoyancy of the property market on both sides of the Forth.

The number of properties sold by Hunters-psm’s Edinburgh property shop in October was almost double the number sold over the same period in 2002 – 43 compared to 25.  That equates nearly £2million worth of property being sold each week in October – again nearly double the figure of the value of properties sold in October 2002.

Up to the end of October, Hunters-psm’s Edinburgh office – in Morningside Road – has sold property to the value of more than £48 million, equating to more than £1m worth of property being sold each week.

In Fife, Hunters-psm’s Dunfermline office also saw the value of its sales increase by nearly 30 per cent compared with 2003.

Matthew Gray, Property Director of Hunters-psm, said the figures were the company’s best ever monthly combined sales and showed how buoyant the market remains, even out with the traditional busy springtime period.

He said: “The scale of these sales increases show that despite the concerns over the interest rate rise and the gloom in some quarters over the state of the property market, people are still determined to move – and move dramatically upwards if the value of properties sold are anything to go by.

“They also confirm that Hunters-psm is fast emerging as one of Scotland’s leading solicitor/estate agents.  To almost double the number of properties sold in our Edinburgh office over a year, is a testament to our investment in new technology, innovative marketing techniques and excellent customer service.”

Matthew said the sales in October were across all sectors, with the highest sale achieving just under £1million.

He said: “There has been talk of the market at the top end slowing down, but we’ve found no real evidence of that.  We sold two properties in Edinburgh in excess of £750,000 in October with one going for just under the £1million mark.  Elsewhere the sales of lower conversions, from people downsizing, and flats also remained strong.

“Traditionally, springtime is the busiest period, but we have a very good late summer and autumn and early signs for November shows that sales are remaining very buoyant.”
