First taste of PR award success with Holyrood PR’s Outstanding Young Communicator of the Year

David Connor of PR agency Holyrood PR was named Scotland's outstanding young Communictor at the 2006 PRide PR awards

IN 2006 we enjoyed the taste of public relations success – claiming one of the most coveted prizes available.

The Outstanding Young Communicator category is hotly contested every year, with the cream of Scotland’s young talent vying for the career-defining accolade.

In 2006 Holyrood PR’s David Connor came out on top. He was recognised for his outstanding work on behalf of in-taxi entertainment firm, Cabtivate and for saving the business from a potential media catastrophe after the founder bungled an appearance on one of the earliest episodes of TV show, Dragon’s Den.

David masterminded a proactive media campaign in the months before the show aired, ensuring dozens of influential newspapers, magazines and news sites carried positive stories about Cabtivate.

The PR Award for oustanding young communicator in 2006 was awarded to PR agency Holyrood PR

In fact, instead of being damaged by his bumbling appearance on Dragon’s Den, the PR campaign was so effective it let to the Cabtivate founder being dubbed a “dragon slayer” for going onto find success despite being ridiculed by the panel of entrepreneurs.

David’s award also commended another highly successful reputation management campaign on behalf of renowned Edinburgh restaurant, Maison Bleue, during a troubled planning application.

In the decade since David’s win, Holyrood PR has repeatedly cemented its reputation as the most impressive hothouse for developing young PR talent in Scotland, claiming the award more than any other award winning PR agency.

In 2011 the Outstanding Young Communicator was won by our Account Manager Laura Berry and in 2015 it was won by Holyrood PR Account Executive, Ross Stebbing.

Meanwhile, other members of our PR team were runners up in the category, with the following young account executives or account managers from Holyrood PR being commended in each of these years:

  • Suzanne Mackie – 2008
  • Melissa Clark – 2014
  • Chris Fairbairn – 2016
  • Stuart Milne – 2017
  • Fraser Clarke – 2018

We are particularly proud of this record, which demonstrates our commitment to developing young talent, to training and to best practice in public relations.
