Musselburgh Racecourse Stobo Castle Ladies Day 2016. This year's Queen of Style winner, Michelle Gardiner from Falkirk, with the keys to her new car.MUSSELBURGH Racecourse was on to a winner this weekend, when 10,000 racing fans and fashionistas flocked to the track for the social event of the year – the annual Stobo Castle Ladies Day.

TV personality Vernon Kay, Hibs captain David Gray, the newly appointed Miss UK and Sean Connery’s son Jason Connery were amongst the VIP guests that were in attendance at the sell-out event.

The renowned Edinburgh day was filled with professional racing that attracted some of the country’s best trainers, jockeys and horses. Nathan Evans, riding Hoofalong, was a convincing winner of Musselburgh’s most valuable race, the £100,000 William Hill Scottish Sprint Cup.

The racecourse celebrated in style after collaborating with Edinburgh Fashion Week to offer attendees expert styling tips. Michelle Gardiner was crowned this year’s winner of the coveted ‘Queen of Style’ title – judged by Miss UK, Laura Russell of Satisfashion and STV’s Hayley Matthews – taking home a brand new £10,000 car, thanks to local dealership Belmont Wallyford.

The much-anticipated ‘King of Style’ award, sponsored by Slaters Edinburgh, was won by Nathan Austin, with Nicola Dudgeon taking the ‘Best Hat’ title. Both competitions were judged by the previously mentioned panel, with Choreographer of Fashion in the Field Gunther Smith joining them for the ‘King of Style’ competition, and Sally Ann Proven both sponsoring and judging the ‘Best Hat’ competition.

And it didn’t stop there, with Vernon keeping the party going with a post-racing DJ set in a packed marquee – a fitting finale for another successful day for Musselburgh Racecourse, which this year celebrates its 200th anniversary.

Musselburgh Racecourse also made a number of appealing enhancements for this year’s Stobo Castle Ladies Day, all of which were met with enthusiastic feedback from attendees. These included a more expansive marquee, extended bar areas, the addition of 72 new toilets and a unique range of new food and beverages on sale, including a pop up Fever Tree Gin Bar serving 24 different types of gin, a variety of delicious street foods and champagne ice lollies.

Aisling Johnston, Marketing Manager at Musselburgh Racecourse, said: “Our focus for Stobo Castle Ladies Day 2016 was to invest in the customer experience ensuring we delivering a 5 star day with new initiatives to provide something memorable for our racegoers, and all indications are that it has paid off.

“Every year we attract some of the country’s best trainers, jockeys and horses, particularly for the £100,000 William Hill Scottish Sprint Cup, and provide the professional racegoer experience that attendees are looking for.

“We are now preparing to do it all over again on Friday (8 July) when we host our Bi-Centenary Celebration Raceday, so we would encourage people to stay in touch to find out the details of what promises to be a very special day.”

Musselburgh Racecourse is firmly established as one of the UK’s most stylish racecourses, hosting 28 flat and jumps meetings each year.
