DETAILED proposals for a development in Belhaven near Dunbar, with significant early buyer interest, have been lodged with East Lothian Council.
CALA Homes has submitted plans for its 90 home Beveridge Row development and has adapted the project in response to engagement with the local community.
Following a well-attended consultation in June, the respected firm – and current ‘Large Housebuilder of the Year’ with the Scottish Home Awards – has included plans to plant a belt of mature trees along the eastern boundary, in order to minimise any visual impact on existing properties.
Having already had a number of enquiries from potential buyers, Craig Lynes, Land Director, CALA Homes (East), is delighted to be progressing with a development that has previously been granted Planning Permission in Principle (PPP).
Craig said: “Following genuinely constructive engagement with the local community, we have sought to introduce a tree belt between existing and proposed properties whilst also amending the proposed affordable housing offering to reduce the impact of the parking requirements.”
“This project at Beveridge Row will provide a range of much needed homes and as promised, we looked to amend our proposal in recognition of comments raised during the consultations.
Although many who attended the consultation did not initially support the redevelopment of the site, having now accepted the established principle of residential development, we have been encouraged by the number of people pleased to see CALA develop the site.”
CALA Homes will work within the established PPP parameters, proposing 90 homes with a range of 2, 3, 4 and 5 bedroom properties, including detached family homes, cottage style apartments and terraced units.
The development will include 25% affordable housing, whilst the PPP also secures financial contributions for enhancement to Dunbar Grammar and West Barns Primary and improvements to footways on Edinburgh Road to ensure a safer route to schools is delivered.
